Tattoo Aftercare

Just incase, you are planning ahead or forgot - It's here for you!

Tattoo Aftercare

Your tattoo artist has provided you with a unique tattoo and has instructed you on the proper aftercare. The tattoo is a 50/50 venture, for your artist and yourself. The aftercare being just as important as the application. The following is a list of simple instructions that will make the healing process faster:

If you are covered with Derm Shield:

· Leave on for 4-5 days. (or as directed by your artist)

· Peel off when removing, DO NOT pull!

· Wash gently with warm water and a soapy lather, pat dry and apply aftercare lotion. You may want to apply a small amount of aftercare lotion. Wait a day or 2 after taking the derm off before starting to apply.

· For Sunblock, wait about 2-4 weeks or until the tattoo is fully healed. Using sunscreen too soon could irritate the skin.

If you are covered with clear wrap:

· Remove the bandage between 1-3 hours after your tattoo session. Gently wash your tattoo with mild antibacterial soap (such a Dial) and warm water. You may also keep the area covered in cling wrap overnights for the first few days to help keep in moisture. In the mornings just remove and wash gently.

· Don’t use cloth towels to dry your tattoo because they can harbor bacteria, which is harmful to a fresh tattoo. Always use a new paper towel to wash and blot dry. It is preferable to let your tattoo air dry before applying fresh ointment or lotion.

· We suggest using a tattoo aftercare product, such as Redemption or cocoa butter lotion, for the first 24-48 hours. After washing, let the tattoo air dry completely until your skin feels “tight”, and then apply a thin layer of aftercare to coat the area. For the first couple of days, the tattoo may weep after applying aftercare. This is a natural part of the healing process. Simply blot this excess moisture with a clean paper towel.

· Wash and apply tattoo lotion or cocoa butter up to 3 times a day.

· Do not soak your fresh tattoo. Keep showers to a maximum of 10 minutes. (No pools, lakes, hot tubs, dishes for hands, etc.) Keep it out of direct sunlight also for

3-ish weeks or until it is fully healed.

· Your tattoo will begin a light peeling or scabbing process around 3-7 days after your session. Continue to apply tattoo aftercare to dry skin. Do NOT pick, scratch or peel the tattoo.

REMEMBER: Taking the best care of your tattoo will let it heal and result in a great looking tattoo for years to come.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact your tattoo artist.

Body Piercing Aftercare Instruction

Getting a new piercing, or just forgot - we got you!

What to Expect for Your New Piercing

You may experience no side effects: however, it’s not uncommon to experience any of the following:

· Bleeding, bruising, and/or swelling.

· Itching

· Secretion of a whitish-yellow liquid (this is not puss)

Piercings may tend to have “ups and downs” during the healing process. Be patient and always clean your piercing for the recommended time, even if it looks and feels healed.

Piercing Do’s

· Leave the piercing alone except to clean it.

· Leave the jewelry in for at least 2 months (8 weeks) before attempting to change jewelry. Piercings can shrink or close in minutes, even if the piercing has been healed for years.

· Check daily with clean hands to make sure your jewelry is secure.

· Contact your piercer if your jewelry must be temporarily removed.

· Make sure your bed sheets are clean and changed frequently while healing.

· Clean your telephone and avoid public telephones for fresh ear piercings.

· Wear clean, cotton clothing in the area of a body piercing.

· Get enough sleep, eat a nutritious diet, and avoid undue stress, recreational drugs, and alcohol consumption.

· Use caution when exercising. Avoid tight clothing in the area of your piercing and always clean your piercing after you work out.

· Shield piercings from makeup, hairspray, and other beauty products.

· Take showers instead of baths. If you bathe, clean your bathtub with bleach before each use and clean your piercing with Recovery/ Saline spray or Mild Soap and warm water.

· If your piercing ever becomes infected, the jewelry should be left in to allow drainage. The holes can close if the jewelry is removed, which may result in abscesses.

· For oral piercings,

· Wait 24hrs before brushing your teeth and tongue after the initial piercing.

· Suck on crushed ice, drink cold water, or eat popsicles to reduce swelling ( ibuprofen if applicable) . Eat soft foods until you are used to the jewelry. Remember to rinse after eating.

· Make sure to rinse after eating, drinking, kissing, smoking for the first 5days.

Piercing Don’ts

· Touch your piercings with dirty hands.

· Rotate the jewelry.

· Use rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, Bactine or Hibiclens.

· Use Bacitracin, Neosporin, or any ointment.

· Over clean. (the first 3-5 days extra clean, then go about your day like normal)

· Engage in oral contact, rough play, and contact with other people’s body fluids.

· Use adhesive bandages on a new piercing except for the first week of micro dermal piercing or couple days for nose piercings.

· Sleep on a healing piercing.

· Hang charms or weights from your jewelry.

· Go into pools, lakes, hot tubs, etc. for 2 months. (If you must go in dirty water, use a breathable , waterproof bandage like Derm Shield).

· Let lotions, makeup or any personal care products get into piercings.

· For oral piercings, Avoid: Acidy foods and drinks such as orange juice, spaghetti sauces, hot or Spicy. Avoid too much dairy or beer as it can lead to thrush/yeast infection. Smoke or chew tobacco, drink alcohol, or partake in drugs and oral sexual contact for the first week. These activities will all irritate your oral piercing and cause it to swell.

This aftercare pamphlet was created to help you through the healing process and beyond. We will go the extra mile to ensure your piercing/tattoo will look great and heal easily. While healing, you can give your piercing/tattoo the attention it deserves by following these simple suggestions based on over 20 years of experience and research.
